Journalists Present Petitions to Drop Charges Against Their Own

September 5th, 2008 by Melanie Levs Posted in Uncategorized

Today, independent journalists and advocates presented a petition with 50,000 signatures at the city hall in St. Paul, Minn., demanding charges be dropped against journalists who were arrested covering anti-war protests during the Republican National Convention this week. Media groups who have critized the arrests include the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and Reporters Without Borders.

An AP photographer, and a host and two producers from Democracy Now! were four of the 286 people arrested during an anti-war march in downtown St. Paul, Minn., on the first day of the Republican National Convention on Monday. All were released within hours.
